Role: Graduate Project Assistant

Location: Multiple roles, Salisbury or Coventry based.

Five Rivers Environmental Contracting Ltd is a specialist environmental contracting company with a head office located in the Avon valley, just north of Salisbury, Wiltshire.  Founded in 1994, we have over twenty five years of experience dedicated to nature conservation and habitat creation, restoration and management, particularly on environmentally sensitive and challenging sites. Works include River Restoration, Ecological Mitigation, Habitat Creation and Ecological Monitoring.

What you’ll be doing

You will be joining a staff of thirty covering work in all areas of the UK, with a direct focus on supporting our Project Managers.  Each of the team members has skills and specialities which allow for a vast range of knowledge and experience sharing.

You will play a key role in delivering and supporting the expansion of the business through tendering, project management, consenting, consultancy and design. You will work closely with our Project Managers to ensure we successfully bid for work, and deliver projects to the high standards demanded by our clients.

This is an exciting role for a graduate or someone early on in their career to gain valuable experience, with a clear progression within the company.

Who we’re looking for

  • We have positions based in our Salisbury and Coventry offices, with occasional travel and staying away
  • Supporting project managers on our construction sites, one role will predominantly site based.
  • Provide a key support role in all non-operational sides of the business including: tendering, consenting and project management
  • Completion of all projects to the required best practise

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Desirable skills / qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in related field
  • Experience in using ArcGIS, CAD or drawing software
  • CSCS Card
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
  • Ecological knowledge and interest in the outdoor environment

The package

This position will have a starting salary of £17,000, which will be reviewed on an annual basis. You will receive 20 days holiday, plus public bank holidays, with an additional day of leave accrued per year of service. You will have an annual training budget of £500, exclusive of any initial training agreed. For the right candidate, there will be career progression depending on aspirations and suitability.

Role: Senior Site Manager

Five Rivers Environmental Contracting Ltd is a specialist environmental contracting company with a head office located in the Avon valley, just north of Salisbury, Wiltshire.

What you’ll be doing

You will be joining a staff of 30 people working all over the UK delivering a variety of environmental projects including small civil engineering projects, river restoration, river re-alignment, floodplain re-connection, ecological mitigation and fish passes.

You will play a key role as Senior Site Management, responsible for the planning and delivery of two construction teams concurrently.

Who we’re looking for

Management:

  • To lead by example, from the front and ensure that Five Rivers is the best we can be.
  • Line manage the delivery of two projects, support two Site Foreman & act as a mentor
  • Responsibility for timely delivery for the construction phase within budget, reporting directly to the project specific PM.
  • Specific projects may be delivered with the SSM also operating as PM.
  • Responsible for plant management & reporting including all LOLER/Certifications requirements
  • Support the Contracts Manager & Project manager with project development & Initial project planning
  • Vehicle & plant organising, responsible for the condition of vehicles, weekly maintenance and management. Reporting faults.
  • Responsible for Staff allocations to each project
  • Responsible for ordering of all plant, materials required onsite, sub-contractors, tools and vehicles (with less than 1 months lead in time)
  • Spend a minimum of 2 day a week in the office (either at Meadow Barn or the Site Offices) to assist with planning, project management, development of RAMS and assisting the costing department.
  • Partake in Pre-Commencement Meetings (PCM’s) & Project Close down meetings with Project Managers & Ops Manager
  • Responsible for Teams Tool inventory, ordering repairs and replacements where required.

Reporting:

  • To report effectively to the PM on project progress and provide a daily Update Summary.
  • Provide early warnings of issues and highlight potential delays to the PM
  • To ensure our online construction project management software is used throughout the process.
  • To ensure compliance & internal Management System (IMS) reporting requirements are met
  • Seek approval from the PM should an item required onsite be over budget or not from Approved supplier list
  • Manage working hours and over time for Operations team and report accordingly to OM
  • To measure and report on all Approved Suppliers

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure all H&S legislation is complied with onsite.
  • Review RAMS and site paper work to ensure they are fit for purpose and up to date.
  • Immediate reporting of all accidents to the Client & PM
  • Weekly reporting of all near misses

Human Resources:

  • Recruitment – Assess submitted CV’s, help produce a short list & attend interviews for new staff
  • Managing staff appraisals of Site Foreman & Site staff
  • Responsible for Staff wellbeing and moral
  • Reporting concerns & Issues to relating to staff matters to the OM
  • Ordering of PPE replacements & uniform where required.
  • Organise Welfare and Staff accommodation
  • Management of client interface and public perception in a professional manner
  • Minimisation of waste and promotion of environmental best practice
  • Completion of all projects to the required best practise.

Requirements

  • CITB SMSTS qualified
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Knowledge and experience of CDM 2015
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients and stakeholders
  • Experience of managing field teams
  • A commitment to promoting Health, Safety and Wellbeing within the company
  • An area of specialism in one or more of the following: Civil Engineering, Environmental Contracting or River Restoration.
  • A full clean UK driving licence
  • Physically fit and hard working

The package

The position has a starting salary of £35,000 – £40,000 depending on experience, which will be reviewed on an annual basis. You will receive 21 days holiday, plus public bank holidays, with an additional day of leave accrued per year of service. The role will require working away from Salisbury a majority of the working week (Monday-Friday), for which you will receive a staying away allowance. You will have an annual training budget, exclusive of any initial training agreed. For the right candidate, there will be career progression depending on aspirations and suitability.
