Civil Engineering works at Gas to Grid Facility
FiveRivers was appointed by Wessex Water (YTL) as Principal Contractor to deliver a package of civil works at a Waste Recycling Centre later 2025, forming part of operational upgrades to the Gas to Grid (GTG) facility. Delivered entirely within a live COMAH-designated operational environment, the project required strict compliance with CDM Regulations, Wessex Water standards, and robust permit-to-work procedures.
The scope comprised four key elements:
- construction of a reinforced concrete footpath to improve safe access behind the GTG unit;
- installation of of heavy-duty ACO channel drainage; included breaking out existing slabs, installation of slot drains, and core drilling into an adjacent manhole;
- Construction of new reinforced concrete chiller base, validated through plate load testing.
As Principal Contractor, our responsibilities included planning, sequencing, safety management, stakeholder liaison, environmental protection, and full quality assurance. Daily coordination with Wessex Water operations ensured uninterrupted site access and operational continuity, despite restricted working areas.
The team have returned in early 2026 to complete further works at Avonmouth, a contract awarded following this successful delivery. To find out more about a full civil engineering capabilities, get in touch – https://five-rivers.com/our-services/civil-engineering/
