River Lea Restoration Design Project
FiveRivers are working in partnership with The Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust to deliver a design and build project on the River Lea.
The site has been identified as an area that suffers from low-flows and flood events and is dominated by a freshwater lagoon, serving as a crucial habitat for wading birds. The project aims to improve the overall physical condition of the river increasing its resilience to low-flows and flooding, increase macrophytes, invertebrates and support healthy fish populations.
Our proposed works include outline & detailed designs, installing brushwood ledges, path and crossing infrastructure improvements, installation of in-channel features, wildlife fencing and nest boxes as well as re-instating and re-digging reedbeds to improve hydrology.
Furthermore, the scheme aims to enhance the biodiversity of the riparian wetland environment, creating a more supportive ecosystem for a diverse range of birds, invertebrates, and small mammals.
