Wessex Water Durleigh Phase 2 Award
FiveRivers are delighted to share that we have been awarded additional works by Wessex Water at Durleigh Reservoir. We have been entrusted with a new project which involves the excavation of 15 ponds and scrapes, the excavated material will be used to create diverse mounds and hummocks, enriching the habitat. Stay tuned as we embark on this journey of ecological enhancement later this year.
In 2020, FiveRivers worked with Wessex Water to successfully design and build two wetlands – a naturalised wetland was designed to capture course sediment and silt by connecting the Durleigh Brook back to its floodplain. The other, an engineered wetland, was designed to improve the quality of supply from the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, and also recycled water from the water works with respect to sediment, nutrients and pesticides After a year’s monitoring the wetlands were found to reduce the total amount of ammonia present in the water by 75%, and reductions in the total phosphorus and sediment loading by a third hence proving its efficiency.
