This project for Test Valley Borough Council involved repairs to an existing concrete weir structure in between two online lakes, replacement of failing oak revetments and installation of soft engineering solutions.

River Wensum Restoration Works Phase 2

This is year 2 of a 3 year scheme to restore 6km of the upper Wensum in Norfolk, we worked with designers Atkins to utilise a range of restoration techniques to counteract historic management of this important chalk river.

River Ash Weir By-pass, Surrey

This project successfully opened up and restored a by-pass channel to navigate impoundment structures and online lake on the River Ash in Surrey.  This involved a range of techniques to increase fish passability and improve in stream habitat.

Hammer Stream River Restoration

These works were to improve in stream habitat and flood plain connectivity in a 900m section of the Hammer Stream near Biddenden, Kent.  Five Rivers worked with our clients designs to install a meandering low flow channel in this previously canalised reach as well re-connecting the old course of the river to provide a natural flood management channel.

Riverbank Protection Salisbury

We removed 200m of failing oak revetment and replaced with low level berm to provide more sustainable bank protection.  In more shaded areas the revetment was replaced with heavy duty 50mm green oak.

River Diversion Enabling Works in Berkshire

We worked with MJ Abbott to create 100m of river channel to enable new access into development site, we also installed 200m of bio-engineered revetment to limit erosion throughout the site.

Turf Translocation at Quarry Extension, Leicestershire

Translocation of 8000m² of lowland wet grassland at a large quarry site in Leicestershire.  Five Rivers used our extensive experience of turf translocation to ensure as much of this species-rich grassland was retained as possible.  We also carried out works to enhance and connect a river diversion on site.

Wilsford and Great Durnford River Restoration

Five Rivers worked with Amco Engineering to complete this challenging habitat improvement project on a 1.4km section of the River Avon.  Works included a range of river restoration and light civil engineering solutions to improve habitat and fish passage.

Urban River Restoration River Cherwell, Banbury

Working with BBOWT and Banbury Town Council we carried out habitat improvements on this 300m reach of the River Cherwell running through an urban park in Banbury.  Tree thinning, bank re-profiling and installation of woody debris was significantly improved freshwater and riparian habitats as well as making the River Cherwell more accessible to park users.

River Restoration on the Upper River Arun, Sussex

Working for the Arun and Rother Connections (ARC) project we carried out in channel and floodplain works on this low gradient, deeply incised clay river in West Sussex. River restoration works were carried out on a 3.5km stretch of the Upper Arun using a range of techniques focusing on channel narrowing, tree clearance and woody debris installation.
